Fortschwihr (German Fortschweier ) is a French commune with 1157 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haut-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ).

geography

The municipality of Fortschwihr is located in the Upper Rhine Plain between the Rhine and Ill , nine kilometers east of Colmar city ​​center. Neighboring communities of Fortschwihr are Muntzenheim in the north, Urschenheim in the east, Widensolen in the southeast, Andolsheim in the south and Bischwihr in the west. The latter municipality is only a few hundred meters from Fortschwihr and is separated by the le Blind stream . A grammar school and a sports complex were built on the municipal border with Bischwihr. The facilities are used by several municipalities in the area.

history

From 1871 until the end of the First World War , Fortschwihr belonged to the German Empire as part of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine and was assigned to the Colmar district in the Upper Alsace district .
