Obersaasheim is a French commune with 1033 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haut-Rhin département in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ). It belongs to the Arrondissement Colmar-Ribeauvillé , the canton Ensisheim and the municipality association Pays Rhin-Brisach .

The municipality of Obersaasheim is located in the Upper Rhine Plain , about four kilometers southwest of Breisach am Rhein .
history
In documents from the year 768 the settlement is called Saxones , also called Saxen en allemand . Later it was subordinate to the Abbey of Munster in the Vosges. Later names were Saxony around 1316, Sachsheim around 1517 and Sassenheim around 1576. In 1683 the name "Obersaasheim" already existed. The village church was built from 1772 to 1777 and the school and parish hall from 1835 to 1838.
From 1871 to the end of the First World War , Obersaasheim belonged to the German Empire as part of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine and was assigned to the Colmar district in the Upper Alsace district .
