Blodelsheim is a French commune with 1957 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haut-Rhin department in the Grand Est region ( Alsace until 2015 ). It belongs to the arrondissement of Colmar-Ribeauvillé , the canton Ensisheim and the municipality of Essor du Rhin .

geography

The community lies in the Rhine valley between Fessenheim and Rumersheim-le-Haut . In the east, the Rhine canal runs through the municipality, while the state border between France and Germany runs in the Old Rhine .

Until 1920, Blodelsheim also had a district on the right bank of the Rhine, since the boundaries of the district had not yet been adapted to the Rhine straightened by Johann Gottfried Tulla .

history

The place was first mentioned in the 9th century under the name Flatolvesheim , 1064 as Bladolvesheim , 1272 as Bladoltzheim , 1441 as Blodoltzheim and since 1580 under the current name.

From 1871 until the end of the First World War , Blodelsheim belonged to the German Empire as part of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine and was assigned to the Gebweiler district in the Upper Alsace district .

Blodelsheim is a member of the cross- border local special purpose association Mittelhardt-Oberrhein , which promotes cross-border communal cooperation between municipalities in Alsace and Baden on the basis of the Karlsruhe Convention .

Attractions

Church of St. Blaise

The church of Saint-Blaise (St. Blasius) from 1731 has been equipped with a listed organ by Johann Andreas Silbermann since 1779 . There are numerous half-timbered houses in the village, including the old hospital.
