A silver burning candle in blue

In heraldry , the candle is a heraldic figure , which often stands as a symbol and for a talking coat of arms . This light source is almost always shown in gold or silver, other tinctures are possible, with a burning flame on the wick.

As a talking figure she is in the shield of the Bavarian Lichtenfels and in the old Berlin Lichterfelde coat of arms. Here the candle is equated with the term light.

The candle is often represented with the candle holder . Crossed candles also appear in the coat of arms. The candle, like other heraldic figures, can also be in the upper coat of arms . It has symbolic power as a broken candle with an extinguished flame. Death and an extinct genealogical line are to be displayed here. An example is the tomb of Count Heinrich von Pisnitz.
