Stosswihr (Alsatian Stooswihr , German Stossweier ) is a French commune with 1,352 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haut-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ). She is a member of the Communauté de communes de la Vallée de Munster .
geography
The village is located in the Vosges , in the Vallée de la Petite Fecht , a side valley of the Vallée de Munster , about 20 km from Colmar in the east and 25 km from Gérardmer in the west. Stosswihr is also located in the core of the Regional Nature Park Ballons des Vosges ( French Parc naturel régional des Ballons des Vosges ).
history
In a document from the year 783 the village is mentioned for the first time under the name of Stozzeswillars .
Stosswihr came to Alsace during the Thirty Years War . From 1871 until the end of the First World War , Stosswihr belonged to the German Empire as part of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine and was assigned to the district of Colmar in the district of Upper Alsace .
In February 1915, during the First World War, the valley was badly affected by the invasion of German troops. Reconstruction began in 1920.
