Wasserbourg (German Wasserburg , Alsatian Wasserburig ) is a French commune with 463 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haut-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ). Wasserbourg is a member of the Vallée de Munster municipal association . The municipality is part of the Ballons des Vosges Regional Nature Park .

geography

The community is located in the Krebsbachtal, a side valley of the Münstertal at the foot of the Kahler Wasen . To the north of the village, the ruins of Wasserburg (Wassenberg, incorrectly also straw castle ; 13th century) are enthroned on a 738 meter high hilltop .

history

From 1871 until the end of the First World War , Wasserbourg belonged to the German Empire as part of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine and was assigned to the Colmar district in the Upper Alsace district .
