Economy and Infrastructure
The main road D2 from Neuf-Brisach to Ensisheim crosses Rustenhart in a north-south direction. There are also road connections to Rouffach at the foot of the Vosges and to the villages on the Rhine to the east. The surrounding land is forested in some places or it is used for agriculture. Mainly maize is grown. Another important line of business is small business.
Trivia
In Rustenhart, the town hall ( Mairie ) is converted into a pub for eight days every three years . The reason is that no new dispensing licenses are issued in France and existing licenses expire if they are not used for at least the above period. When the last innkeeper in the village wanted to give up his license, it was taken over by the municipality in order to save it as the village's last license.
