Niederentzen (German Niederenzen ) is a French commune with 715 inhabitants (January 1, 2017) in the Haut-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ). It belongs to the Arrondissement of Thann-Guebwiller and the canton of Ensisheim .
geography
The municipality of Niederentzen is located on the Ill , about 15 kilometers south of Colmar . In the west, the municipality extends to the Alte Thur , in the south the built-up area merges seamlessly into the municipality of Oberentzen .
history
Around 1276 the place was called Nidern Enszheim ( Nieder-Ensisheim ). The settlement was subordinate to the Murbach Abbey in the 13th century .
From 1871 until the end of the First World War , Niederentzen belonged to the German Empire as part of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine and was assigned to the Gebweiler district in the Upper Alsace district .

Attractions
The choir of the parish church of St. Agathe dates from the 15th century, the nave from the early 18th century. The octagonal bell tower was built in 1828. In 1859 further alterations and extensions followed, in 1940 the ceiling paintings were renewed and in 1967 the church was completely renovated. The church was classified as a monument historique in 1995 .
