Bergholtz ( German  Bergholz ) is a French commune with 1078 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haut-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ). She is a member of the Association of Municipalities Région de Guebwiller .

The village is located on the eastern edge of the Vosges in the Upper Rhine Plain , between the valley exits of Quierenbach and Lauch . The west of the community area is forested ( Forêt communale de Bergholtz ). The highest point is reached here on the eastern cliffs of the Oberlinger at 574 m above sea level. The distance to the cities of Colmar in the north and Mulhouse in the south is around 25 kilometers each.

The municipality of Bergholtz is part of the Ballons des Vosges Regional Nature Park .

Bergholtz's neighboring communities are Bergholtzzell and Orschwihr in the north, Rouffach in the northeast, Gundolsheim in the east, Issenheim in the south and Guebwiller in the southwest.

history

The existence of the place since 680 is confirmed in a document from the Murbach monastery .

From 1871 until the end of the First World War , Bergholtz belonged to the German Empire as part of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine and was assigned to the Gebweiler district in the Upper Alsace district .

Weinlage Spiegel above the village

Viticulture plays an important economic role; on the territory of the municipality is part of the Alsace Grand Cru wine cellar Spiegel , the other part of which is in the Guebwiller district. Accordingly, the place is on the Alsace Wine Route .
