Burnhaupt-le-Haut (German Oberburnhaupt , Alsatian Ewerburnhaipt ) is a French commune with 1802 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haut-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ). It belongs to the Arrondissement Thann-Guebwiller , the canton Masevaux and the municipality association Vallée de la Doller et Soultzbach .

geography

The municipality of Burnhaupt-le-Haut is located about 15 kilometers southwest of Mulhouse , near the Burgundian Gate . The Doller flows through the north of the municipality . The municipality is an important traffic junction: this is where the A 36 (Mulhouse-Besançon), the two-lane D 83 (to Colmar) and some country roads meet.

Neighboring communities of Burnhaupt-le-Haut are Aspach-le-Bas in the north, Schweighouse-Thann in the northeast, Burnhaupt-le-Bas in the southeast and south, Soppe-le-Bas in the southwest and Guewenheim in the northwest.

From 1871 to the end of the First World War , Burnhaupt-le-Haut belonged to the German Empire as part of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine and was assigned to the district of Thann in the district of Upper Alsace .
