Jungholtz (German Jungholz ) is a French commune with 898 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Alsatian department of Haut-Rhin in the Grand Est region .

geography

Jungholtz is located on the edge of the southern Vosges, west of the municipality of Soultz-Haut-Rhin and at the entrance to the Rimbachtal ( Vallon du Rimbach ), which includes Rimbachzell and Rimbach-près-Guebwiller . Jungholtz includes the hamlet of Sainte-Anne with a chapel and a rehabilitation center and Thierenbach with a basilica.

history

The first documentary mention comes from the year 1220. Since 1880 the community has been independent. Until the end of the First World War , Jungholtz belonged to the German Empire as part of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine and was assigned to the Gebweiler district in the Upper Alsace district .

Attractions

The castle, the Château des seigneurs de Jungholtz , was built in the 17th century. The Jungholtz Jewish cemetery is the best preserved in the Haut-Rhin department. The pilgrimage site of Thierenbach with its Baroque-style Basilica minor : Our Lady of Thierenbach is one of the most famous pilgrimage sites in Alsace.
