Hattstatt is a French commune with 785 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Arrondissement of Thann-Guebwiller in the Haut-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ). It is a member of the Communauté de communes Pays de Rouffach, Vignobles et Châteaux , its residents are called Hattstattois or Hattstattoises .

geography

Hattstatt lies at the foot of the Vosges , around eight kilometers southwest of Colmar . Hattstatt is a community on the Alsace Wine Route , able Hatschbourg are Grand Cru -wines grown. The municipality is part of the Ballons des Vosges Regional Nature Park .

history

The settlement was first mentioned in 1188. At that time, a castle that has now disappeared was built here, and has been called Niederhattstatt since the 15th century to distinguish it from Hoh-Hattstatt Castle . The name Hattstatt was derived from the gender of one of the local noble families. Niederhattstatt Castle was destroyed by French troops in 1635.

From 1871 until the end of the First World War , Hattstatt belonged to the German Empire as part of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine and was assigned to the Gebweiler district in the Upper Alsace district .

Attractions

The parish church of Sainte-Colombe dates in its earliest parts from the 11th century, making it one of the oldest churches in Alsace. Numerous changes were made over the centuries. The church has been listed as a Monument Historique since 1984 . It contains numerous works of art and an organ, which are also protected.

Parish partnership

The German community of Wiggensbach in the Bavarian Allgäu has been the partner community of Hattstatt since 1985 .
