The canton Wintzenheim is a canton in the arrondissement Colmar Ribeauvillé and Thann-Guebwiller in the Haut-Rhin department in the region of Grand Est in France .

history

The canton was founded on March 4, 1790 as part of the establishment of the départements. With the establishment of the arrondissements on February 17, 1800, the canton was redesigned. On March 22, 2015, the canton was enlarged from 10 to 35 municipalities. None of the previous municipalities in the canton switched to other cantons. There were also 25 communities from other cantons. These 25 communes belonged to the cantons of Munster (all 16 communes), Rouffach (all 8 communes) and Kaysersberg (1 of the 12 communes) until 2015 .

Today's canton of Wintzenheim borders the canton Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines in the north, the canton Colmar-1 in the northeast, the cantons Colmar-2 and Ensisheim in the east, the cantons Guebwiller and Cernay in the south and the west the Vosges department .

Until the nationwide reorganization of the French cantons in March 2015, the canton of Wintzenheim included the ten municipalities of Eguisheim , Herrlisheim-près-Colmar , Husseren-les-Châteaux , Obermorschwihr , Turckheim , Vœgtlinshoffen , Walbach , Wettolsheim , Wintzenheim and Zimmerbach . Its layout corresponded to an area of ​​80.59 km ² . Before 2015 it had a different INSEE code than it does today, namely 6826.

politics

In the first ballot on March 22, 2015, none of the four voting pairs achieved an absolute majority. In the runoff election on March 29, 2015, Monique Martin / Lucien Muller (both Union de la Droite | UD) won against Pierre Courtaux / Angélique Minoux (both FN ) with a share of the vote of 64.98% (turnout: 50.46% ).
