The Canton Wittenheim is a canton in the Arrondissement Mulhouse in the Haut-Rhin department in the region of Grand Est in France .
history
The canton of Wittenheim was created on February 26, 1958 when the cantons of Mulhouse-Nord and Mulhouse-Sud were divided into five cantons. On March 22, 2015, the canton was completely restructured. With the exception of the canton capital, no municipality remained in the canton. Eight communities from the neighborhood were assigned to this. These 8 communes belonged to the cantons of Cernay (Staffelfelden and Wittelsheim), Ensisheim (Pulversheim), Illzach (Ruelisheim) and Soultz-Haut-Rhin (Berrwiller, Bollwiller, Feldkirch and Ungersheim) until 2015 .

The canton of Wittenheim borders in the northwest and north on the canton Guebwiller , in the east and southeast on the canton Rixheim , in the south on the cantons Kingersheim and Mulhouse-3 and in the west on the canton Cernay .

Until the nationwide reorganization of the French cantons in March 2015, the canton of Wittenheim included the six communities Kingersheim , Lutterbach , Pfastatt , Reiningue , Richwiller and Wittenheim . Its layout corresponded to an area of 63.59 km 2 . Before 2015 it had a different INSEE code than it does today, namely 6827.
politics
In the first ballot on March 22, 2015, none of the six candidate pairs achieved an absolute majority. In the runoff election on March 29, 2015, the pairing of Marie-France Vallat / Pierre Vogt (both DVG) won against Ludwig Deleersnyder / Évelyne Fuchs (both FN ) with a share of the vote of 51.38% (turnout: 47.58%).
