The canton of Altkirch is a French constituency in the arrondissement of Altkirch , in the department of Haut-Rhin and in the region of Grand Est (until 2015 Alsace ).

history

The canton was founded on March 4, 1790 as part of the establishment of the départements as part of what was then the "Altkirch District". With the founding of the arrondissements on February 17, 1800, the canton was redesigned as part of the then Altkirch arrondissement (since 1857 Mulhouse). On March 22, 2015, the canton was enlarged from 27 to 67 municipalities. The municipalities of Ballersdorf and Eglingen , which belonged to the canton until 2015 , were assigned to the canton of Masevaux .
