Ferrette ( German Pfirt ) is a French commune with 729 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haut-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ). It belongs to the arrondissement Altkirch and the canton Altkirch and the municipality association Sundgau .
geography
To the north and west is the municipality of Vieux-Ferrette and to the south and east is Bouxwiller . The Sentier Interregio , an intermunicipal hiking trail, begins in Ferrette and then passes the Sondersdorf to the south-west . In addition, the community borders Ligsdorf in the south and Bendorf in the southwest .
The hamlet of Bergmatten is south of the town center .
history
The current settlement, called Ferrette , was built around 900 years ago.
Pfirt was the main town in the county of Pfirt . In the Thirty Years' War this passed to Cardinal Mazarin via Louis XIV . Later the settlement was ruled by the House of Grimaldi from Monaco . The princes of Monaco still call themselves Counts of Pfirt today . In 2006 Albert II of Monaco was a guest. Otto von Habsburg was among the regular guests .
From 1871 until the end of the First World War , Ferrette belonged to the German Empire as part of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine and was assigned to the Altkirch district in the Upper Alsace district .

Attractions
- The place is of half-timbered buildings marked.
- The church of Saint-Bernard de Menthon is partly Gothic , monument historique since 1902.
- The oxblood-red Renaissance town hall (Hôtel de Ville) dates from 1570 and has been registered as a Monument historique since 1996
- The Hohenpfirt castle ruins stand at 611 m. ü. NN. east of Ferrette. It dates from the time of the Habsburgs and was built from 1125. Cardinal Mazarin and the Grimaldis also resided here. It was burned to the ground by revolting peasants in 1789. The ruin has been a monument historique since 1930.
