The municipality of Retzwiller is located in the Burgundian Gate , between Altkirch and Belfort . The Rhine-Rhône Canal runs through the municipality and overcomes the watershed between the Rhine and the Rhone by means of a staircase of locks .

history

From 1871 until the end of the First World War , Retzwiller belonged to the German Empire as part of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine and was assigned to the Altkirch district in the Upper Alsace district .

Culture and sights

The chocolate factory in Retzwiller is the southern starting point of the Franco-German Chocolate Route (“La Route du Chocolat et des Douceurs d'Alsace”), which leads to Bad Bergzabern with around 40 stops via Colmar , Strasbourg and Kehl , Zabern and Haguenau .
