The Arrondissement Altkirch is an administrative district in the Haut-Rhin department in the Grand Est region of France (until the end of 2015 Alsace ).
history
On March 4, 1790, with the establishment of the Haut-Rhin department, a district of Altkirch was also founded, which at the time also included the area of what is now the arrondissement of Mulhouse. On February 17, 1800, the arrondissement was founded from it.
In 1857 the name and administration of the arrondissement passed to Mulhouse.
Since May 18, 1871, the area revived as Altkirch district in the Upper Alsace district of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine . At that time the district covered 654 km² and in 1885 had 51,695 inhabitants.
In the course of the reintegration of Alsace into France on June 28, 1919 (Treaty of Versailles), it became the Arrondissement Altkirch again.

geography
The arrondissement borders in the north on the Arrondissement Thann , in the north and east on the Arrondissement Mulhouse , in the south on the Swiss cantons of Solothurn , Basel-Landschaft and Jura and in the west on the Arrondissement Belfort in the Territoire de Belfort department .
There are two constituencies ( cantons ) in the arrondissement :
