Eglingen was destroyed by the Swedes in the Thirty Years War (1618-1648) and repopulated by Swiss settlers.

During the reign of Napoléon Bonaparte (1769-1821) the Rhine-Rhône Canal in the area of ​​the municipality was expanded by Spanish forced laborers .

From 1871 until the end of the First World War (1914-1918) Eglingen belonged to the German Empire as part of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine and was assigned to the Altkirch district in the Upper Alsace district . During the First World War, the place was destroyed again and then rebuilt.

Attractions

In 1302 a church in Eglingen was mentioned in a document. This building was declared dilapidated in 1772. In 1777 a new nave was built. A bell tower was built before the First World War. The Saint-Léger church was destroyed in World War I, with the exception of the Gothic sacristy , which dates from the 14th century. The building was rebuilt in 1927.
