In 1141 the place was called Biederdan according to documents and was an estate in the county of Pfirt , which belonged to the noble free von Biederthan. The lords of Ratolsdorf ( Rodersdorf in the canton of Solothurn), documented since 1197, branched off from the Biederthan . The Lords of Blauenstein are also a branch of the noble free von Biederthal, and the Lords of Rotberg (at Rotberg Castle , Canton Solothurn) branched off from the Ratolsdorfern . All genders had similar coats of arms.

In 1324 Biederthal passed to the Habsburgs. Until the middle of the 15th century, the Lords of Rotberg were able to take possession of the Leuhausen farm in Biederthal, along with other estates (Rodersdorf, Blauenstein Castle in Kleinlützel ). In 1580 the place went to the Barons Reich von Reichenstein . They built a castle and a castle estate, which they owned until 1857.

From 1871 until the end of the First World War , Biederthal belonged to the German Empire as part of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine and was assigned to the Altkirch district in the Upper Alsace district .
