dialect
Oltige , as the community is called in the local Alsatian dialect, is one of the few Alsatian villages whose regional dialect (only spoken by the older generation) is High Alemannic . This can also be seen in the dialect form of the place name, which has polished the original name ending -ingen into the form -ige that is typical for High Alemannic . The French spelling Oltingue , on the other hand, tries to reproduce the Lower Alemannic-Alsatian pronunciation phonetically using the means of the French alphabet.
