Muespach-le-Haut (German Obermüspach ) is a French commune with 1,065 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haut-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ). It belongs to the canton Altkirch and community association Sundgau .
geography
The community of Muespach-le-Haut is located on the eponymous Muesbach , which flows into the Ill a few kilometers to the west of lls Gersbach . The Sundgau community is 15 kilometers from Basel and 20 kilometers from Altkirch .
Neighboring communities of Muespach-le-Haut are Knœringue in the north, Michelbach-le-Haut in the northeast, Folgensbourg in the east, Linsdorf in the south, Fislis in the southwest and Muespach in the west.
From 1915 on, the community owned a common train station with Folgensbourg on the Waldighoffen – Saint-Louis-la-Chaussée line . This comprised two sidings and a loading siding. Passenger traffic was discontinued in 1955 and the line closed in 1960.
history
From 1871 until the end of the First World War , Muespach-le-Haut belonged to the German Empire as part of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine and was assigned to the Altkirch district in the Upper Alsace district .
