Balschwiller ( German Balschweiler ) is a French commune with 757 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haut-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ). Balschwiller is a member of the Sud Alsace Largue community association . The municipality of Balschwiller is located on the Largue and the Rhine-Rhône Canal in Sundgau , six kilometers north of Dannemarie .

history

The village was first mentioned in 728.

From 1871 to the end of the First World War , Balschwiller and today's district of Ueberkumen (then Überkümen ) belonged to the German Empire as part of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine and were assigned to the Altkirch district in the Upper Alsace district .

On September 26, 1972, Ueberkumen was incorporated into Balschwiller.
