Sternenberg is a French commune with 155 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haut-Rhin department in the Grand Est region ( Alsace until 2015 ). It belongs to the Arrondissement Altkirch , the canton Masevaux and is a member of the community association Sud Alsace Largue .

geography

The municipality of Sternenberg is located in the transition area between the Vosges and the Burgundian Gate , about 20 kilometers southwest of Mulhouse . The Sunderbach and Widenbach streams have their source in the municipality and drain to the Rhine via Soultzbach , Largue and Ill .

Neighboring municipalities of Sternenberg are Soppe-le-Bas in the north (point of contact), Diefmatten in the northeast, Hecken in the east, Guevenatten in the south, Bellemagny in the west and Bretten in the northwest.

history

From 1871 until the end of the First World War , Sternenberg belonged as part of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine to the German Empire and was assigned to the Altkirch district in the Upper Alsace district .
