Location of the arrondissement of Colmar-Ribeauvillé in the department of Haut-Rhin |
The arrondissement of Colmar-Ribeauvillé is an administrative district in the Haut-Rhin department in the French region of Grand Est ( Alsace until the end of 2015 ). On January 1, 2015, it was formed from the former arrondissements of Colmar and Ribeauvillé .
history
On March 4, 1790, with the establishment of the Haut-Rhin department, a Colmar district was also created, which at the time also included the area of the former Ribeauvillé district. On February 17, 1800, the Arrondissement of Colmar was separated from it.
On May 18, 1871, part of the area was re-cut as the district of Rappoltsweiler in the district of Upper Alsace in the realm of Alsace-Lorraine . At that time the district covered 459 km² and in 1885 had 61,791 inhabitants. The other part also belonged as the district of Colmar in the district of Upper Alsace to the realm of Alsace-Lorraine. At that time, this district covered 664 km² and in 1885 had 81,438 inhabitants.
In the course of the reintegration of Alsace into France on June 28, 1919 (Treaty of Versailles), the district of Rappoltsweiler became the Arrondissement Ribeauvillé. In addition, an arrondissement "Colmar-Ville" and an arrondissement "Colmar-Campagne" were established; both were reunited in 1934 to form an arrondissement.
