Holtzwihr (German Holzweier ) is a former French commune with 1,356 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haut-Rhin department in the Grand Est region . It belonged to the arrondissement of Colmar-Ribeauvillé and the canton of Colmar-2 .
With effect from January 1, 2016, the former municipalities of Holtzwihr and Riedwihr were merged into a commune nouvelle with the name Porte du Ried .

Holtzwihr is located immediately northeast of Colmar .
history
From 1871 until the end of the First World War , Holtzwihr belonged to the German Empire as part of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine and was assigned to the Colmar district in the Upper Alsace district .
