Colmar arrondissement

The Arrondissement of Colmar was an administrative district in the Haut-Rhin department in the French region of Alsace . The administrative seat was Colmar . The arrondissement last had 148,444 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2012) on an area of ​​665.59 km². On January 1, 2015, it was merged with the Arrondissement Ribeauvillé to form the new Arrondissement Colmar-Ribeauvillé .

history

On March 4, 1790, with the establishment of the Haut-Rhin department, a "District Colmar" was also founded, which at the time also included the area of ​​the arrondissements Ribeauvillé and Guebwiller . On February 17, 1800, the Arrondissement of Colmar was founded.

Since May 18, 1871, the current area as the district of Colmar in the district of Upper Alsace belonged to the realm of Alsace-Lorraine . At that time the district covered 664 km² and in 1885 had 81,438 inhabitants.

In the course of the reintegration of Alsace into France on June 28, 1919 (Treaty of Versailles), the Arrondissement of Colmar revived in two ways. An arrondissement "Colmar-Ville" and an arrondissement "Colmar-Campagne" were established.

In 1934 it was reunited to form an arrondissement.

The arrondissement bordered in the north on the arrondissement Ribeauvillé and the arrondissement Sélestat-Erstein in the department Bas-Rhin , in the east on Germany with the administrative district Freiburg ( Baden-Württemberg ), in the south on the arrondissement Guebwiller and in the west on the arrondissements Épinal and Saint -Dié-des-Vosges in the Vosges department ( Lorraine ).
