Heiteren is a French commune with 1040 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haut-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ). It belongs to the canton of Ensisheim and to the Communauté de communes Pays Rhin-Brisach .
geography
The municipality of Heiteren is located in the Upper Rhine Plain , about 20 kilometers southeast of Colmar and seven kilometers southwest of Breisach am Rhein . The municipal area extends west to the old north arm of the Rhine-Rhône canal and to the east a few hundred meters to the parallel to the Rhine running Grand Canal d'Alsace . The district of Thierhurst on the border with the neighboring municipality of Nambsheim to the south belongs to Heiteren .
history
From 1871 until the end of the First World War , Heiteren belonged to the German Empire as part of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine and was assigned to the Colmar district in the Upper Alsace district .
