Algolsheim is located a few kilometers east of Neuf-Brisach . Since it is only two kilometers away from the Rhine and thus from the border with Germany, many Germans live there who have settled here in recent years and have led to an increase in the population. The Thierlachgraben flows through the village .

history
Algolsheim was first mentioned in 1192 under the name Altolvesheim . The name of the community changed in the course of history: it was called Altholvisherde in 1196, Arcolvesheim in 1256, Altcolzheim in 1302 and Altolzheim from the 14th century.
From 1324 until the French Revolution , the place was under the influence of the Counts and Dukes of Württemberg . The village suffered greatly during the Thirty Years' War , and in 1638 the church was burned down.
From 1871 until the end of the First World War , Algolsheim belonged to the German Empire as part of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine and was assigned to the Colmar district in the Upper Alsace district . In September 1939 the population was evacuated to Chaumont in the Lot-et-Garonne department , from where they returned in the summer of 1940. The community was liberated on February 6, 1945, but it was badly damaged during the Second World War.
