Karl Knortz

Karl Knortz (born August 28, 1841 in Garbenheim near Wetzlar , † July 27, 1918 in North Tarrytown , USA ) was a German-American writer .

Life

Knortz emigrated to the USA in 1863 and devoted himself to teaching here. He worked in Detroit ( Michigan ) from 1866 to 1868 , then until 1871 in Oshkosh (Wisconsin) , later in Cincinnati ( Ohio ) for the German language and literature. He was interested in the poet Walt Whitman and wrote two books about him.

He worked as an editor of the "German Pioneer" in Cincinnati and the "Indiana Deutsche Zeitung" in Indianapolis.
