Labaroche (German Zell ) is a French commune with 2,165 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Vosges Mountains in the Haut-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ). She is a member of the Communauté de communes de la Vallée de Kaysersberg .

geography

Labaroche is a scattered settlement with the character of a mountain village and lies between the Vallée de Munster and the Vallée de Kaysersberg . Department road D11 runs in the south . Striking mountains are the Grand Hohnack with 980 m. ü. M. and the Petit Hohnack with 927 m. ü. M. The most important field names are la Place , les Évaux , la Chapelle and Basse Baroche . The municipality is part of the Ballons des Vosges Regional Nature Park .

history

In the 17th century, Labaroche was an Alemannic village. A castle was built on the Hohnack by the lords of Ferrette and Ribeaupierre ( Ribeauvillé ) (see Rappoltstein ).

From 1871 until the end of the First World War , Labaroche belonged to the German Empire as part of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine and was assigned to the district of Rappoltsweiler in the district of Upper Alsace .
