The castle Hohenpfirt or castle Ferrette is the ruins of a hilltop castle in the Alsatian Jura in France . The castle is first mentioned in 1100 and is therefore one of the oldest castles in Alsace. The lords of the castle were the Counts of Pfirt until the male line died out in the seventh generation in 1324 and passed to the Habsburg Albrecht II through Johanna von Pfirt. From then on the Hohenpfirt was the Vogtsresidenz in front of Austria.
description
The castle complex is divided into two parts: the upper or main castle and the outer castle .
The upper castle is much older than the outer castle and was built from limestone .
The outer bailey has several semicircular shell towers which, in the event of a conquest, do not offer the attacker any protection against fire from the upper bailey.
