Edmond Armen Nazarjan (born January 19, 2002 in Sofia ) is a Bulgarian wrestler . In 2020 he became European champion in the Greco-Roman style in the weight class up to 55 kg body weight.

Career

Edmond Nazarjan is the son of the two-time Olympic champion and multiple world champion in wrestling Armen Nazarjan . Both are of Armenian origin but live in Bulgaria. Edmond Nasarjan started wrestling at an early age and only starts in the Greco-Roman style.

Edmond Nazarjan made his first start at an international championship in 2017 at the European Junior Championships (age group "Cadets") in Sarajevo. In the weight class up to 42 kg body weight, he finished 11th. At the Junior World Championships ("Cadets") 2017 in Athens, he came in the same weight class in 8th place.

In May 2018 Edmond Nasarjan became Junior European Champion ("Cadets") in Skopje in the weight class up to 45 kg body weight. In the final, he defeated Gurban Furbanow from Azerbaijan. In the same year he came in the Junior World Championship ("Cadets") in Zagreb in this weight class on the 3rd place and won a bronze medal. In October 2018 he also took part in the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires. He also won a medal there in the weight class up to 45 kg, a bronze one.

In June 2019 he was again Junior European Champion ('"Cadets") in Faenza in the weight class up to 51 kg in front of Baris Erbek, Turkey. At the Junior World Championships ("Cadets"), which took place a month later in Sofia, he was defeated by Saeid Morad Gholi Esmailileivesi from Iran after winning two fights in the semifinals, but then secured a bronze medal with a victory over Assad, India .

At the European Championships 2020 in Rome, Edmond Nazarjan started for the first time in an international championship among seniors. In the weight class up to 55 kg, he surprised all competitors and defeated Snorre Harsem Sund, Norway, Giovanni Freni, Italy, the 2018 world champion Eldaniz Azizli from Azerbaijan, who he even shouldered, and in the final the reigning European champion Vitali Kabaloyev from Russia.
