Eldaniz Azizli (Eldəniz Yəmən oğlu Əzizli, born April 20, 1992 in Beylagan , Azerbaijan ) is an Azerbaijani wrestler . In 2018 he became world champion in the Greco-Roman style in the weight class up to 55 kg body weight.

Career

Eldaniz Azizli started wrestling in Beylagan in 1999. He concentrated entirely on the Greco-Roman style. One of his role models was Fərid Mansurov , the Azerbaijani Olympic champion in 2004. In 2007, the Azerbaijani Wrestling Association became aware of him through his good performances at the national championships. He was then delegated to the wrestling center Nefti Baku . Since then, Vagif Feizulayev has been his trainer.

In the following years he was extremely successful at the international championships in the youth field. In 2007, 2008 and 2009 he was in the weight classes up to 42 kg, 46 kg and 50 kg in each case junior European champion in the age group "Cadets". In 2010 he was Junior World Champion in Budapest in the weight class up to 50 kg in the age group "Juniors".

In April 2011, Eldaniz Azizli was used for the first time in an international championship among seniors. He won a bronze medal in the weight class up to 55 kg at the European Championships in Dortmund. Two months later he was in Zrenjanin Junior European Champion (Juniors) in the weight class up to 55 kg. In July 2011 he started at the Golden Grand Prix in Baku in the weight class up to 55 kg. He finished 3rd behind his compatriots Rövşən Bayramov and Taleh Mammadow . In the further course of his career it became clear that he could not get past these two wrestlers at national level, which made it difficult for him to be able to start in the senior sector at international championships (Olympic Games, World Championships, European Championships).

In July 2011 Eldaniz Azizli won a bronze medal at the Junior World Championships (Juniors) in Bucharest in the weight class up to 55 kg and in September 2012 he was world champion in Pattaya in the same weight class and in the same age group ahead of Victor Ciobanu , Moldova and Shinobu Ota , Japan. At the 2013 World Universities Games in Kazan, he competed in the weight class up to 55 kg, in which he won a bronze medal behind Ivan Tatarinov, Russia and Victor Ciobanu.

In 2014, the world wrestling federation FILA and UWW once again changed the weight classification. In the Greco-Roman style, the weight class up to 55 kg was dropped. The lowest weight class had its limit of 59 kg from 2014 to 2017. As a result, all light wrestlers in those years had to start in the weight class up to 59 kg, because the next weight class had its limit at 66 kg. For Eldaniz Azizli this new division had a very negative effect, because he could never really gain a foothold in the weight class up to 59 kg body weight. The only medal he won in this weight class was a bronze one, which he won at the U23 European Championship in Walbrzych, Poland.

Since 2018 there has been a new classification of weight classes in the Greco-Roman style. The weight class up to 55 kg was reintroduced. In April 2018 Eldaniz Azizli started at the European Championships in Kaspiisk in this weight class and became European champion with victories over Nugsari Zurzumia , Georgia, Vasily Topojew, Russia and Helary Maegisalu, Estonia. In October 2018 he became world champion in Bucharest with victories over Jozsef Andrasi, Hungary, Cao Liguo, China, Shota Tanokura, Japan, Nugsari Zurzumia and Scholaman Scharschenbekow , Kyrgyzstan.

In 2019, Eldaniz Azizli failed to defend these two titles. But he won both at the European Championships in Bucharest, as well as at the World Championships in Nur-Sultan, a bronze medal. At the European Championships he defeated u. a. Nugsari Zurzumia, but lost in the semifinals against Vitaly Kabaloyev from Russia. In the battle for one of the bronze medals, he defeated Seref Kilic , Turkey. In Nur-Sultan he lost in the semifinals against Chorlan Schakanscha from Kazakhstan and won the bronze medal by defeating Max Nowry from the United States.

At the European Championship 2020, which was held in Rome in February of this year , Eldaniz Azizli won a bronze medal in the weight class up to 55 kg body weight. In the semifinals he lost against Edmond Armen Nazarjan from Bulgaria. In the battle for one of the bronze medals, he defeated Giovanni Freni from Italy.

Eldaniz Azizli is also well known in German wrestling circles, because he has been wrestling in the German Bundesliga for ASV Mainz 88 and SV Alemannia Nackenheim since 2017 .
