Rövşən Bayramov (also Rövşän Bayramov ; born May 7, 1987 in Baku , Soviet Union ) is an Azerbaijani wrestler . European champion in 2007 and 2008 and silver medal winner at the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 and in London in 2012, both in Greco-Roman bantamweight style.

Career

Rövşən Bayramov started wrestling as a teenager in Baku in 1999. After early successes, he became a member of one of the most successful Azerbaijani wrestling clubs, "Neftchi" Baku . He only wrestles in the Greco-Roman style. He is trained by Hijran Sharifow. The 1.60 meter tall athlete wrestles in the bantam weight, the weight class up to 55 kg body weight. He has been a member of the army since he was 18.

Rövşən Bayramov's international career began in 2002 when he took 3rd place in the weight class up to 46 kg at the European Junior Championships (Cadets = age group up to the age of 16) in Odessa . He achieved the same place at the European Junior Championships (Cadets) 2003 in Rostov-on-Don in the weight class up to 50 kg body weight. In the same year he even managed to win the title at the Junior World Championship (Juniors = age group up to the age of 18) in Istanbul , where he was Junior World Champion with five victories in the same weight class.

In 2004, at the age of seventeen, he tried to qualify for the Olympic Games in Athens . He failed, however, in Tashkent with a 14th place in bantamweight. At the European Seniors Championships 2004 in Haparanda he won his first fight against the strong Bulgarian Wenelin Wenkow , but lost his next fight against Bayram Özdemir from Turkey and came in 9th place.

At the 2004 European Junior Championships in Murska Sobota , Rövşən Bayramov came to a rather disappointing 5th place in the bantamweight division because of a defeat in his quarter-final match against the Russian Daniel Krimow . At the Junior World Championships in 2005 in Vilnius , he managed to win a medal at an international junior championship with third place. That year he also started at the Senior World Championships in Budapest and came in 7th with victories over Sergei Skrypka from Germany and Svajunas Adomaitis from Lithuania and a defeat against Olympic champion István Majoros from Hungary .

With the seniors he was immediately on the road to success from 2006, i.e. from the age of 19. At the European Championships this year in Moscow he came in bantamweight after a defeat in the semifinals against Wenelin Wenkow , who surprised him and defeated him 11: 0 after 3.13 minutes, to 3rd place and at the 2006 World Cup in Guangzhou / China he came to the final, in which he was defeated by the Iranian Hamid Soryan Reihanpour .

In 2007 he won his first senior title at the European Championships in Sofia . With victories over Ioannis Sasaridis from Greece , Ville Kaeki from Finland , Kristijan Fris from Serbia and Saur Kuramagomedow from Russia , he became European bantamweight champion. At the 2007 World Cup in Baku he defeated Roman Amojan from Armenia and Jiao Hua Feng from China , two first-class wrestlers, but then lost to Park Eun-chul from South Korea and Nasir Mankijew from Russia and only reached 10th place.

In 2008 Rövşən Bayramov then won his second European bantamweight title at the European Championships in Tampere . He won u. a. also against Nasir Mankijew , Jani Hapamäki from Finland and in the final fight against Roman Amojan . At the Olympic Games in Beijing he fought his way through victories over Moustafa Hassan from Egypt , Jagnier Hernandez , Cuba a . Roman Amojan up to the final, in which he met his long-term rival Nasir Mankiev. He had the happier end and won this very even fight with 2-0 rounds and 6-5 technical points. For Rövşən Bayramov "only" the silver medal remained .

In 2009 Rövşən Bayramov started in some international tournaments for the first time in featherweight. Before the European Championships in Vilnius , however, he again trained a lot of kilos in order to start in the bantamweight division. Obviously he was weakened too much because he came in Vilnius only to a victory over Oleg Lawruwjanec from Lithuania and then lost to Alexandar Kostadinow from Bulgaria , which he was eliminated and only finished 9th place. At the World Championships in Herning / Denmark he started again in bantamweight and won a bronze medal with four wins . He was only beaten by Roman Amojan from Armenia.

He celebrated the greatest success of his career so far at the 2011 World Championships in Istanbul , where he was world champion in bantamweight with victories over Wenelin Wenkow, Kohei Hasegawa, Japan, Peter Modos, Li Shujin , China and Elbek Taschijew , Belarus .

Bayramov won the silver medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London . He advanced to the final, where he was defeated by the Iranian Hamid Soryan Reihanpour.
