Hamid Soryan Reihanpour ( Persian حمید سوریان ریحانپور; *  August 24, 1985 in Tehran ) is an Iranian wrestler . He is a six-time world champion and 2012 Olympic champion in the Greco-Roman style bantamweight .

Career

Hamid Soryan began wrestling as a teenager in his hometown of Tehran in 1996. He concentrated on the Greco-Roman style. He is a member of the Babas wrestling club . At a height of 1.58 meters he wrestles in bantamweight and since 2010 in less important events in featherweight .

He was already very successful as a junior. In 2005 he was Asian junior champion in Jeju-si / South Korea and in the same year in Vilnius also junior world champion in bantamweight in front of such good wrestlers as Scherah Schodmanow from Uzbekistan , Rövşən Bayramov from Azerbaijan and Rewas Laschchi from Georgia . Finally, in the same year in Budapest, he also became world champion among seniors. On the way to this title he defeated Wugar Ragimow from Ukraine , Bayram Özdemir from Turkey , Lázaro Rivas from Cuba , Ermek Kuketow from Kazakhstan and Park Eun-chul from South Korea.

At the 2006 World Cup in Guangzhou , Hamid Soryan proved that winning the 2005 world title was no coincidence, as he won his second world title there. He defeated Vicente Lillo Garcia from Spain , Wugar Ragimow, Wenelin Wenkow from Bulgaria , Lindsey Durlacher from the United States and Rövşən Bayramov. In 2007 he was the first Asian champion in Bishkek ahead of Cha Kwang Su from North Korea and Lee Jang-baik from South Korea. He became world champion again that year in Baku . He defeated the following wrestlers: Shane Parker from Australia , Anders Nyblom from Denmark , Lindsey Durlacher, Virgil Munteanu from Romania , Kristijan Fris from Serbia and Park Eun-chul.

After winning the Asian championship title again in Jeju-si in 2008, Hamid Soryan, as a three-time world champion, naturally went to the Olympic Games in Beijing as a favorite . In his first two fights he defeated Wenelin Wenkow and Elgin Elwais from Palau safely on points. In his third fight he had to accept a narrow point defeat (1: 2 rounds with 4: 4 points) against Nasir Mankijew from Russia, which meant that the dream of Olympic victory was already over. He then won against Kristijan Fris, but lost in the fight for an Olympic bronze medal against Park Eun-chul, whom he had defeated several times before, just by points (1: 2 rounds, 3: 3 points) and therefore had to with the 5th place.

At the 2009 World Cup in Herning / Denmark , he then proved that he had processed this defeat well, because he won in Herning with wins over Joaquim Martinez Abellan, Spain , Spenser Thomas Mango , United States, Erhan Karakus , Turkey, Håkan Nyblom , Denmark and Roman Amojan , Armenia, his fourth world title. He followed this title with his fifth world title at the World Championships in Moscow with victories over Mohammad Bouterfassa, Algeria , Wenelin Wenkow, Jani Haapamäki , Finland , Roman Amojan and Choi Gyu-jin , South Korea. After this championship he lost his form. This was already evident at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou. He finished there as the reigning world champion only in 5th place. In 2011 he did not get any top results and he was not used by the Iranian Wrestling Association at the world championship in Istanbul.

In the 2012 Olympic year, however, he got himself back into good shape and won the Olympic qualifying tournament in Astana with a 2nd place behind the Japanese Kohei Hasegawa, the right to start at the Olympic Games in London . In London he was finally back in top form and won the Olympic gold medal he had missed in 2008 with victories over Arsen Erakijew, Kyrgyzstan, Peter Modos , Hungary , Håkan Nyblom and Rövşən Bayramov.

With this Olympic victory and the five world championship titles, Hamid Soryan is one of the greats in wrestling.

After Hamid Soryan Reihanpour took a break in 2013, he took part again in the World Cup in Tashkent in 2014. He started there in the weight class up to 59 kg and won the world title for the sixth time with victories over Alex Anechite, Romania, Haitham Mahmoud Fahmy, Egypt, Ismael Borrero Molina , Cuba, Taleh Mammadow, Azerbaijan, Elmurat Tasmuradow, Uzbekistan and Mingijan Semjonow , Russia .

In 2015 Hamid Soryan Reihanpour did not start at any international championships. He first had to qualify to take part in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , as no other Iranian wrestler had fought for a place in this weight class in 2015. He only managed to qualify at the third attempt. At the qualifying tournament in Astana in March 2016 , he finished 7th in the weight class up to 59 kg, at the qualifying tournament in Ulaan-Baatar in April 2016 he only came in 11th and at the qualifying tournament in Istanbul in May 2016, he won ahead of Jesse David Thielke from the United States.

At the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro Hamid Soryan Reihanpour lost in the first round against the Japanese Shinobu Ōta . Since this reached the final, he was able to continue fighting in the consolation round, but lost there against Almat Kebispajew from Kazakhstan and only reached 11th place.
