Nasir Junusowitsch Mankijew ( Russian: Назир Юнузович Манкиев, born January 27, 1985 in Surchachi , Checheno-Ingushetian ASSR , Russian SFSR , Soviet Union ) is a Russian wrestler of Ingush nationality . He became Olympic champion in the Greco-Roman style bantamweight in Beijing in 2008 .

Career

Nasir Mankiev started wrestling as a teenager in 1998. After his first successes as a junior, he went to Krasnoyarsk , where a wrestling center has developed around the most successful wrestler of all time, Alexander Karelin , and wrestles for the local sports club SWSM . He wrestles exclusively in the Greco-Roman style and was or is trained by Mikhail Alexandrowitsch Gamsin and Ruslan Tschakijew. The only 1.55 m tall athlete weighs around 55 kg and starts in bantam weight. He is a member of the army, but is currently only active as a wrestler.

Nasir Mankiev made his debut on the international wrestling mat at the 2006 European Championships in Moscow . There he lost his first and only bantamweight fight against Rowshan Bajramow from Azerbaijan and only came in 12th place.

As a Russian champion in 2007, he was also used at the 2007 World Championships in Baku in bantamweight. He lost there against the Korean Park Eun-chul . But since the Korean reached the final, Nazir Mankiew was able to continue fighting in the consolation round and won with victories over Maher Boutouri from Tunisia , Rowshan Bajramow and the like. Ildar Hafizov from Uzbekistan won the bronze medal. In October 2007 he started at the World Military Games in Hyderabad and came third in bantamweight behind Park Eun-chul and Wuhar Rahimow from Ukraine.

In March 2008 Nasir Mankijew won the Hungarian Grand Prix in Szombathely in the bantamweight division ahead of Samuel Hazewinkel from the USA , Natig Bahirow from Belarus and Marat Garipow from Kazakhstan . Immediately afterwards he helped the Russian wrestling team to victory in the World Cup in Szombathely with victories over Lascha Gogitadze from Georgia and Peter Modos from Hungary, but against Lee Jung-baek from South Korea he lost on points.

At the 2008 European Championships in Tampere , things didn't go very well for him. He won his first match against Jan Hocko from the Czech Republic , but then lost again to Rövşən Bayramov. He couldn't take the chance to win the bronze medal over the consolation round, as he lost to Peter Modos after defeating Daniel Molin from Sweden . He came in 7th place.

The Russian Wrestling Federation held on to Nasir Mankiev and sent him to the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing . There he achieved a brilliant performance in the bantamweight division, because he became Olympic champion with victories over Ildar Hafizov from Uzbekistan , Kristijan Fris from Serbia , Hamid Soryan Reihanpour from Iran , the 2007 world champion and his feared opponents Park Eun-chul and Rövşən Bayramov .

In 2009 Nasir Mankiev took a break from the international championships. In 2010 he was back at the start. However, he did not succeed in winning the bantamweight title at the European Championships in Baku or at the World Championships in Moscow . In Baku he lost in the final fight against Elçin Əliyev from Azerbaijan and in Moscow in the semifinals against Choi Gyu-jin from South Korea .

In 2011, Nasir Mankijew renounced in favor of his brother Bekchan Mankijew on a start at the Russian championship and thus also on starts at the international championships. In November 2011, however, he won the Haparanda Cup in Sweden . In January 2012 he came in at the important "Ivan Poddubny" tournament in Tyumen, behind his compatriots Mingijan Semjonow , Stepan Maranjan, Ivan Tatarinow and Sergei Popruschko, only on 5th place and in the 2012 Russian championship he was beaten in the final by Mingijan Semjonow . So he didn't get a chance to qualify for the 2012 Olympic Games.

Nasir Mankiev was active until 2016, but could no longer qualify for international championships. In 2016 he competed in his last major competition at the Russian championship and finished 5th in featherweight behind Ibragim Labasanow, Stepan Margarjan, Jambulat Lokjaew and Mingijan Semjonow.
