Mingijan Arturowitsch Semjonow ( Russian Мингиян Артурович Семёнов , English Mingiyan Semenov, Mingiyan Semyonov ; born June 11, 1990 in Komsomolski , Kalmyk ASSR , Russian SFSR , USSR ) is a Russian wrestler . He won a bronze medal in bantamweight at the Olympic Games in London in 2012 and was vice- world champion in the weight category up to 59 kg in 2014 .

Career

Mingijan Semenov is ethnically a Kalmuck . He started wrestling at the age of 10 in 2000. His coaches were or are Boris Sambajew, VN Trifonow and Michail Gamsin. He now lives in Moscow , belongs to the (sports) school of the Olympic Reserve No. 1 and is a sports student. He only wrestles in the Greco-Roman style.

Mingijan Semjonow's international career began in 2005 when he took 3rd place in the European Junior Championship for Cadets in Tirana in the weight category up to 42 kg. After that, however, he did not appear again until 2009. That year he became the Russian junior bantamweight champion. He was then used at the Junior World Championships in Ankara , but missed the medal ranks there with a 5th place.

2010 Mingijan Semjonow came in the Russian junior championship in featherweight on the 3rd place.

The great successes did not materialize until 2012. At the beginning of the year he won the famous “Ivan Poddubny” memorial in Tyumen ahead of his compatriots Stepan Maranyan, Ivan Tatarinov and Sergei Popruschko. Then he also won the Golden Grand Prix in Istanbul in front of Ivan Tatarinow, Elçin Əliyev , Azerbaijan and Kohei Hasegawa from Japan . Eventually he was also the Russian bantamweight champion ahead of Nasir Mankijew , Stepan Maranjan and Rassul Bekuch. At the European Championships 2012 in Belgrade , where Elçin Əliyev won the title, he only came in 5th place.

The Russian Wrestling Federation held on to him anyway and sent him to the Olympic Games in London . There he lost his first fight against the experienced Azerbaijani Rövşən Bayramov , but was lucky that he reached the final. That is why he was able to continue in the consolation round and win a bronze medal with victories over Spenser Thomas Mango , United States , Li Shujin , China and Choi Gyu-jin , South Korea .

In 2013 Mingijan Semjonow finished in the Russian championship in the weight class up to 55 kg behind Ivan Tatarinow and Bekchan Mankijew only in 3rd place and did not appear in any international championships this year.

In 2014, however, he was again Russian champion in the weight class up to 59 kg and was then sent to the start in this weight class at the 2014 World Cup in Tashkent. With victories over Roman Amojan , Armenia, Lee Jung-baek, South Korea, Stig Andre Berge, Norway and Spenser Thomas Mango and a defeat in the final against Olympic champion Hamid Soryan Reihanpour from Iran, he won the world championship title.

In 2015 he finished 3rd in the Russian championship in the weight class up to 59 kg, behind Ibragim Labasanow and Stepan Marjanjan . He did not appear in international championships this year.

At the important "Iwan Poddubny" tournament in Tyumen in 2016, he took 3rd place in the weight class up to 59 kg behind his compatriot Ibragim Labasanow and Elmurat Tasmuradow from Uzbekistan. Contrary to the practice of the Russian Wrestling Association, he was nevertheless sent to the European Championship in Riga. In Riga he was in excellent shape and won the European title with victories over Donior Islamow, Moldova, Albert Aghazarjan, Spain, Kristijan Friis, Serbia and Roman Amojan , Armenia.

At the Russian championship in June 2016, however, he only finished 3rd in the weight class up to 59 kg behind Ibragim Labasanow and Stepan Marjanjan and therefore had no chance of being used at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Ibragim Labasanow started there, but he was eliminated in the qualification.

In January 2017 Mingijan Semjonow won the "Ivan Yarigin" Grand Prix in Krasnoyarsk ahead of Jambolat Lokjajew, Stepan Marjanjan and Sergej Jemelin. He then received a starting place at the European Championships in Novi Sad. In Novi sad he defeated Donior Islamow and Taleh Mammadow, Azerbaijan, in the weight class up to 59 kg, but then lost in the semifinals against Iwo Angelow from Bulgaria, securing a bronze medal with a victory over Erik Torba, Hungary. At the 2017 Russian championship he was runner-up behind Stepan Marjanjan.

In 2018 he took second place behind Sergei Alexandrovich Jemelin at the "Ivan Yarigin" Grand Prix in the weight class up to 60 kg , but became Russian champion in the same weight class in August 2018. However, Sergej Jemelin, who was injured in the Russian championship, was awarded the starting place at the 2018 World Cup.
