Choi Gyu-jin (born June 28, 1985 ) is a South Korean wrestler . He was runner-up in the world and Asian championships in 2010 and participated in the 2012 Olympic Games in London in Greco-Roman style.
Career
Choi Gyu-jin began wrestling as a teenager in 1998, but only came into contact with top-class sport during his military service. For this reason there are no outstanding results from his junior years. He now belongs to the Cho pe Seoul Tajean wrestling club and is trained by Jin Hyung-gyun. It starts only in the Greco-Roman style and with a height of 1.68 meters wrestles in the lightest weight class for men, the bantam weight, which goes up to 55 kg body weight.
His first international competition he competed in was the 2008 World Military Championship in Split . He took the excellent 2nd place behind the Iranian Mohsen Hajipour. In 2009 he was used at the Asian Championships in Pattaya , but only came in 10th there. He did a little better at the 2009 World Cup in Herning, Denmark . He came there to victories over Arsen Eraliejew, Kyrgyzstan , Jorge Cardoso, Venezuela and Jani Haapamäki , Finland . But then he lost against Roman Amojan , Armenia and in the consolation round against Rövşən Bayramov from Azerbaijan and finished in 7th place.
In 2010 he was Asian bantamweight champion in New Delhi ahead of Rajender Kumar from India , Kanybek Dscholtschubekow, Kyrgyzstan and Marat Garipow, Kazakhstan . He achieved the greatest success of his career in September 2010 when he reached the finals at the World Cup in Moscow with victories over Elgin Elwais, Palau , Elçin Əliyev , Azerbaijan, Peter Modos , Hungary and the 2008 Olympic champion Nasir Mankijew , Russia advanced, in which he was defeated, however, against the outstanding Hamid Soryan Reihanpour from Iran .
In 2011 he did not do so well at the World Cup in Istanbul . He won there over Ildar Hafisow, Uzbekistan , Idelfonso Arangure from Mexico and Roman Amojan, but then lost to Bekchan Mankijew from Russia. Since this did not reach the final, he was eliminated and came in 7th place. This place was not enough to qualify for the 2012 Olympic Games in London . In April he therefore played the qualifying tournament in Taiyuan / People's Republic of China , which he won ahead of Ayhan Karakus, Turkey and Elmurat Tasmuradow, Uzbekistan. At the Olympic Games himself he won over Yun Won-Chol from North Korea and Gustavo Balart-Marin from Cuba , then he lost to Rövşən Bayramov from Azerbaijan and in the consolation round also against Mingijan Semjonow from Russia and therefore just missed the 5th place Medal ranks.
