Wugar Ragimow
Wugar Hamidullowitsch Ragimow (born February 5, 1986 in Baku , Azerbaijani SSR , Soviet Union ) is a Ukrainian wrestler . He is multiple medalist at European Championships in the Greco-Roman style in bantamweight .
Career
Wugar Ragimow came to Ukraine as a child. There he started wrestling at the age of 11. He focuses on the Greco-Roman style. During his military service he was a member of CSKA Zaporozhye , now he is a member of the Metallurg Zaporozhye sports club . He has been trained by Evgeni Chestkow since 2006. Wrestling is currently his profession. The 1.60 meter tall athlete always started in the lightest weight class in men's wrestling, the bantamweight, which has its weight limit of 55 kg. In the 2012/13 season he wrestled in the German Bundesliga for TuS Adelhausen .
He made his first start at an international championship in 2003 when he took part in the Junior World Championship in Istanbul in the weight class up to 50 kg and came in 10th. A year later he won his first medal, a bronze, at the European Junior Championships in Murska Sobota in the same weight class. Another medal, again a bronze one, he also won at the European Junior Championships 2005 in Wrocław , where he came third in bantamweight behind Maxim Mordovin from Russia and Abas Djudojan from Armenia . He was less successful at the Junior World Championships. In 2004 he finished 18th in Vilnius and 15th in Budapest in 2005 .
2006 Wugar Ragimow was used for the first time in an international championship of the seniors. He came here at the European Bantamweight Championships in Moscow with two wins and two defeats on a good 5th place. In the same year he also started at the Junior European Championship in Szombathely and at the Junior World Championship in Guangzhou . In Szombathely he was runner- up behind Saur Kuramagomedow from Russia and in Guangzhou he defeated Bayram Özdemir from Turkey , then lost to Hamid Soryan Reihanpour from Iran , defeated Vicente Lillo Garcia from Spain and was defeated in the consolation round against Wenelin Wenkow from Bulgaria . He came in 7th place.
In 2007 he won his first medal in an international senior championship in Sofia . He finished third at the European Championships. He lost after victories over Mariusz Łoś from Poland and Irakli Chochua from Georgia again against Saur Kuramagomedow. He won the bronze medal by winning the consolation round over Wenelin Wenkow. However, he had no luck at the World Cup this year in Baku , because after a victory over Mamuka Khosrewanidze from Georgia he lost to Virgil Munteanu from Romania and was eliminated early because he did not reach the final. Therefore he only came in 22nd place. A consolation for this poor performance was winning the silver medal at the military world championships in Hyderabad behind Park Eun-chul from South Korea , but ahead of Nasir Mankiev from Russia.
In 2008 Wugar Ragimow again won a medal at the World Military Championship, which took place in Split that year . He took 3rd place behind Mohsen Hajipour from Iran and Choi Gyu-jin from South Korea. For the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 , he could not qualify.
He won further medals at the 2010 European Championships in Baku, where he took 3rd place, and at the 2011 European Championships in Dortmund , where he was runner- up behind Roman Amojan from Armenia. It was not enough for him to win a medal at the 2009 World Cup in Herning , where he came in 10th place, at the 2010 World Cup in Moscow , where he was only 25th and at the 2011 World Wrestling Championship in Istanbul, where he was again 10th arrived.
In 2012 he managed to qualify for the Olympic Games in London at the last possible opportunity, a tournament in Helsinki , by beating Arsen Eralijew from Kyrgyzstan and Joakim Fagerlund from Sweden . In London he lost his first fight against Li Shujin from China on points (0: 2 rounds, 2: 6 points). Since this wrestler could not qualify for the final, he was eliminated and took 13th place.
