Wrestling World Championships 2010

The 2010 World Wrestling Championships took place from September 6th to 12th, 2010 at the Olimpijski sports complex in Moscow . It was wrestled in both Greco-Roman and free styles . The wrestlers were divided into seven weight classes. A total of 631 wrestlers took part, 245 of them in Greco-Roman and 231 in freestyle, as well as 155 female wrestlers.

The reigning Asian champion Taleb Nariman Nematpour , who refused to compete against the Israeli Denis Nikolajew , caused a political scandal . On the grounds that he had stomach problems, he continued Iran's boycott policy against Israel, which had been going on since 1979.

The women's competitions took place from September 8-10, 2010. The wrestlers from Japan secured medals in six of the seven competitions. Only Mami Shinkai could not place in the medal ranks with a fifth place in the weight class up to 67 kg.
