Career

Abdulchakim Schäpijew, born in Moscow, is of Dagestan origin. He started wrestling in Moscow in 1996. He opted for the free style. As a junior he could not qualify for participation in international championships in the Russian Wrestling Federation. He therefore changed his nationality in 2006 and starts working for Kazakhstan from then on. His trainer there is Baurshan Nurmachanow. But he mostly trains in a training center of the Russian Wrestling Association in Kislovodsk .

The first international championship in which he participated for Kazakhstan was the 2006 World Cup in Guangzhou . He came there in welterweight after a loss to Asghar Ali Basrighaleh , Iran , a victory over Gheorghiță Ștefan from Romania and a loss to Don Pritzlaff from the United States on the 12th place. In December of the same year he won his first medal at an international championship at the Asian Games in Doha in welterweight. It was the bronze one he reached behind Ashgar Ali Basrighaleh and Cho Byung-kwan , South Korea .

For the 2007 World Cup in Baku , Äbdulchakim Schäpijew trained over 8 kg in order to be able to compete in the lightweight . An ordeal that didn't bring him anything and that he didn't repeat. He came in Moscow after a victory over Li Quan, People's Republic of China and a defeat against Otar Tushishvili from Georgia only in 20th place. In the following years he only started in the welterweight division.

He won the next medal again at the 2009 Asian Championship in Pattaya . He won the runner-up championship there behind Sadegh Saeed Goudarzi from Iran. He then celebrated the greatest success of his career at the 2010 World Cup in Moscow. There he defeated Trent Paulson , USA , and Mendsaichan Mjagmar, Mongolia , lost to Sadegh Saeed Goudarzi and won a bronze medal in the consolation round with three wins over Suren Markosjan , Armenia , Wolodimir Sirotin , Ukraine , and Iván Fundora Zaldívar , Cuba , after all .

In 2011, Äbdulchakim Schäpijew beat Gábor Hatos from Hungary , Zhang Chongyao, China and Rashid Kurbanow, Uzbekistan at the World Championships in Istanbul , lost again in the semifinals to Sadegh Saeed Goudarzi and finally lost the battle for a bronze medal against Dawit Chutishvili from Georgia he came in 5th place. However, this place earned him the right to start at the 2012 Olympic Games. In February 2012, he finished second behind Sadegh Saeed Goudarzi at the Asian Championship in Gumi / South Korea.

At the Olympic Games in London in 2012 he won his first fight over Bilel Quechtati from Tunisia , but then lost to Gabor Hatos. Since this did not reach the final, he was eliminated and came in 10th place.
