Gheorghiță Ștefan

Ștefan Gheorghiță (born January 17, 1986 in Bucharest ) is a Romanian wrestler . He won a bronze medal in free style at the 2008 Olympic Games and the 2010, 2011 and 2012 European Championships .

Career

Ștefan Gheorghiță only started wrestling at the age of 14 in 2000. He belonged to the Rapid Bucharest sports club and was or is trained by Cornel Zaharia and Nicolae Ghiță . He focused exclusively on the free style and started in the lightweight , welterweight and, since 2010, middleweight. He is also well known in German wrestling circles because he started in the German Bundesliga in 2007 at KSV Ketsch and ASV Mainz 1888 .

He began his international career in 2004 with a 5th place in the lightweight at the European Junior Championships in Sofia . He won his first medal in 2006 at the European Junior Championships in Szombathely in the welterweight division behind Kahaber Chubeschtu from Russia . In the same year he also started for the first time in the senior class at an international championship. At the European Championships in Moscow he came here in welterweight with a victory over Peter Weisenberger from Germany and a defeat against Murad Gaidarow from Belarus on the 11th place.

In 2007 he won at the World Championships in Baku welterweight a good 5th place and defeated while Salvatore Rinella sus Italy , Dumitru Socaliuc from Israel , Ahmet Gülhan from Turkey and Aoun Karrachi from Syria . He lost against Ibragim Aldatow from Ukraine and Iwan Fundora Saldivar from Cuba . This 5th place also earned him the right to start the Olympic Games in Beijing . In Beijing he lost to Soslan Tigijew from Uzbekistan and to Murad Gaidarow, but a victory over Emzariaos Bentinidis from Greece was enough to place him again in 5th place. After eight years, the Uzbek Tigijew was subsequently disqualified for doping and Gheorghiță was awarded the bronze medal in 2016.

In 2009 Gheorghiță did not take part in any international championships. In 2010 he appeared at the European Middleweight Championships in Baku . He got along very well in this new weight class and got an excellent 3rd place with three wins, with a defeat against Sharif Schrifow from Azerbaijan . In the battle for the bronze medal, he beat Dejan Boganow from Macedonia on points. At the 2010 World Cup in Moscow , he first won over Ehsan Lashgari from Iran , but lost in his second fight against Wadim Laliew from Armenia and only came in 14th.

At the 2011 European Championships in Dortmund , he defeated middleweight Piotr Ianulow from Moldova , Michal Duba from Slovakia and the 2010 world champion Michail Ganew from Bulgaria . Against Dato Marsagishvili from Georgia , he suffered a defeat in the semi-finals. In the battle for the bronze medal, he defeated Ibrahim Bolukbaschi from Turkey.

At the European Wrestling Championships 2012 in Belgrade Gheorghiță won bronze for the third time in a row. He won gold at the 2013 Universiade .
