István Veréb

István Veréb (born October 8, 1987 in Szombathely ) is a Hungarian wrestler . He won a bronze medal in free style middleweight at the 2013 World Championships .

Career

István Veréb, who comes from a wrestling family, began wrestling as a teenager in 1991. His first coach was his father of the same name. His Hungarian parent club is Haladás Szombathely . Since joining the Hungarian national team, he has been coached by István Gulyás. He focuses on the free style. He is a student and wrestles with a height of 1.81 meters in the middleweight, the weight class up to 84 kg body weight. István Veréb is also well known in German wrestling circles because he has been wrestling in the German Bundesliga for years. He is currently (2013/14) starting for RWG Mömbris-Königshofen . But he was also active for AC Auerbach, SV Germania Weingarten , 1. Luckenwalder SC and for TuS Adelhausen .

As a junior, he took part in several world and European championships since 2003. In 2007 he succeeded in winning a bronze medal in the middleweight division at the European Junior Championships in Belgrade. In 2008 he was the first Hungarian champion in the senior welterweight division. Since the Hungarian Wrestling Association was entitled to a place in this weight class at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, he was able to compete in these games. But he lost his first fight against the American Ben Askren. Since this did not reach the final, he was eliminated and came in 20th place.

In the following years he was then used regularly at the World and European Championships. But he did not succeed in placing in the front field at these championships. In 2012, he also failed to qualify for the 2012 Olympic Games in London. He then presented himself in excellent form at the 2013 World Cup in Budapest. There he defeated Jose Daniel Robertti, Venezuela, lost to Ibragim Aldatow , Ukraine and then secured a bronze medal in the consolation round with victories over Evgeni Soltruk, Estonia, Musa Murtasalijew , Armenia and Murad Gaidarow , Belarus.
