Denis Igorewitsch Zargush
Denis Igorewitsch Zargusch ( Russian Денис Игоревич Царгуш ; born September 1, 1987 in Gudauta , Abkhazian ASSR , USSR ) is a Russian wrestler , 2009 world champion in free style welterweight.
Career
Denis Zargusch was born in Abkhazia and came to Moscow in 1997 . There he began wrestling and, after joining the Russian army, became a member of CSKA Moscow . He focuses entirely on the free style and is trained by Islam Kalajew.
Denis Zargusch celebrated his first major successes in 2004 when he was welterweight junior European champion (Cadets) in Istanbul . This success he followed in 2007 at the Junior World Championships (Juniors) in Beijing . He won the welterweight title there with victories over Gocha Lomatidze from Georgia , Jake Kerr from the United States, Sasuke Takatari, Japan and the like. Ayhan Sucu, Turkey . In the meantime he also won the title at the CISM military world championship in Baku in 2006 ahead of the German Peter Weisenberger .
Denis Zargusch had also fought his way into the top class of freestyle wrestlers in Russia by 2007. In his weight class, the welterweight, he had two world class wrestlers in front of him in the three-time Olympic champion Buwaissar Saitijew and the multiple world champion Machatsch Murtasalijew , which he had not yet been able to overtake. For example, at the “Ivan Yarigin” tournament in Krasnoyarsk in 2008 , the most important international tournament in Russia, he was third in the welterweight division behind Murtasalijew and Saitijew. At the World Cup 2008 in Vladikavkaz , which was held in the form of a country tournament, he was used in the fight between Russia and the USA and there defeated Ben Askren on points (1-0 and 4-0). At the Olympic Games 2008 Buwaissar Saitijew started for Russia and won his third gold medal there.
When Buwaissar Saitijew finally resigned from competitive sports at the end of 2008 and Makhach Murtasalijew injured himself in the summer of 2009, the way was clear for Denis Zargusch to start at the 2009 World Championships in Herning . He justified the trust that the Russian team leadership put in him and became welterweight champion with victories over Ender Coşkun, Turkey, Bi Shengfeng, China , Murad Hajdarau , Belarus , Sadegh Gourdarzi , Iran and Çamsulvara Çamsulvarayev from Azerbaijan . He is the first Abkhazian to win this title.
Denis Zargusch also dominated the international championships in 2010. At the European Championships in Baku he won the title with a final victory over Kiril Tersiew from Bulgaria and he also won the World Championships this year in Moscow. He defeated Krystian Brzozowski from Poland, Gábor Hatos from Hungary and Sadegh Gourdarzi in the decisive fights . In March 2011 he continued this winning streak at the European Championships in Dortmund . He defeated Musa Murtasalijew from Armenia in the final and was again European champion.
At the 2011 World Championships in Istanbul, Denis Zargusch met the new American superstar Jordan Burroughs in his second fight , against whom he was narrowly defeated by 1: 2 rounds and 4: 4 points after a tough fight. In the consolation round he first defeated Dmytro Rochnjak from Ukraine, but then had to admit defeat to the Cuban Ricardo Antonio Robertty Moreno just on points (1: 2 rounds, 1: 3 points), which meant he was eliminated and only finished 11th .
At the Golden Grand Prix in Krasnoyarsk, Denis Zargush confirmed his leading position among the Russian wrestlers. He took 1st place there, defeating former Olympic champion Adam Saitijew in the final. He dominated again at the European Championships in Belgrade and won the title again with victories over Oleg Motsalin, Greece , Gábor Hatos, Hungary, Oleh Bylozerkywskyj, Ukraine and Dawit Chuzishvili , Georgia. In London, Denis Zargusch took part in the Olympic Games for the first time. He won the welterweight division there over Əşrəf Əliyev from Azerbaijan and Dawit Chuzishvili, then lost to world champion Jordan Burrougs (1: 2 rounds, 4: 5 points) and finally secured an Olympic bronze medal with a points win over Matthew Gentry from Canada.
After the Olympic Games in London in 2012, Denis Zargusch took a somewhat longer break from competition. In June 2013 he started at the Russian championship and came in 3rd place in the welterweight division. In July 2013 he was used at the Universiade in Kazan and was there before Cəbrayıl Həsənov student world champion.
