Ambako Avtandilowitsch Watschadze
Ambako Watschadze ( Russian Амбако Вачадзе , Georgian ვაჩაძე ამბაკო ; born March 17, 1983 in Kutaisi ) is a Russian wrestler of Georgian descent . In 2009 he was the European lightweight champion in the Greco-Roman style.
Career
Ambako Watschadze is of Georgian descent, but has so far only fought for Russia . He is only 1.64 meters tall, about 70 kg heavy athlete, who always trains down to the light weight (up to 66 kg body weight). Due to his physical constitution, he wrestles very powerfully, but is also tactically and technically mature. He wrestles only in the Greco-Roman style, is a member of the MGFSO Moscow sports club and is trained by Erik Sadechanow.
In the junior area he could not achieve any success on the international wrestling mat. Outside of Russia, he first started in 2003 at the tournament of the Finnish Workers' Sports Association TUL in Vantaa and came in 6th place in the lightweight. He did better in 2005 at the "Henri Deglane" Memorial in Nice , where he came second behind his compatriot Alexander Tschetschiskin, but ahead of the later Olympic champion Steeve Guénot from France and Marcus Thätner from Germany . In the same year he started at the German Grand Prix in Dortmund and came in 3rd place after a defeat against Alain Milián from Cuba .
In 2007 Ambako Watschadze took 3rd place at the "Ivan Petrow" tournament in Sofia in the lightweight category behind the 2005 world champion Nikolai Gergow from Bulgaria and Refik Ayvazoglu from Turkey . In this year the first use at an international championship took place. He competed for Russia at the World Cup in Baku . In his very first fight he met Nikolai Gergow and delivered this an even fight, which he just about 1: 2 rounds, 3: 3 techn. Was subject to points. But since Gergow did not reach the final, he did not get into the consolation round, but retired and only came in 23rd place, which certainly did not correspond to his skills.
In 2008 Ambako Watschadze fought his way to third place at the "Ivan Poddubny" tournament in Moscow, behind Edward Simonjan and ahead of Sergei Kovalenko , both from Russia. He also took the same place at the World Cup in Szombathely , where he placed behind Ali Mohammadi from Iran and Tamás Lőrincz from Hungary , but ahead of Jung Ji-Hyun from South Korea and Sergei Kowalenko. At the world championship in Herning, Denmark, he also won over Marcus Thaetner from Germany, but lost in the semifinals to Manuchar Tschadaia from Georgia. In the battle for the bronze medal he was able to defeat Tamás Lőrincz.
For the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 , the Russian Wrestling Federation had to choose between Ambako Watschadze and Sergei Kovalenko. At first it looked like Watschadze could start there, but at the last minute the association decided on Kowalenko, while Ambako Watschadze had to watch. Incidentally, Sergei Kowalenko could not justify this trust in Beijing.
Although Ambako Watschadze only came 3rd at the important "Ivan Poddubny" tournament in Moscow in the lightweight category behind his compatriots Seiran Simonjan and Migran Arutjunjan , he was used at the European Championships this year in Vilnius . There he knew how to convince and won over Pascal Strebel from Switzerland , Christian Fetzer from Germany , whom he won with 2-0 rounds a. 3: 0 tech. Points beat, Fərid Mansurov from Azerbaijan , Manuchar Tschadaia from Georgia and Michail Sjamjonau from Belarus European champions .
In 2010 Ambako Watschadze was again European champion with five victories in Baku and defeated Ionuț Panait from Romania in the final . He was also successful at this year's World Cup in Moscow . Here he defeated u. a. in the semifinals Tamas Lörincz from Hungary and in the finals Armen Wardanjan from Ukraine. In April 2011, he continued this winning streak, because he was again European lightweight champion in Dortmund . Here he won the final over Tamas Lörincz. However, he caught a pitch-black day at the 2011 World Cup in Istanbul , where qualification for the 2012 Olympic Games in London would have been possible. He lost his first fight against the Croatian Daniel Janecic and, because he did not reach the final, ended up in 37th place.
In April 2012 he tried to qualify for the Olympic Games in London at the tournament in Sofia. But he only came in 7th place there, which of course was not enough for the Olympic qualification. Since Juri Denisow and Islambek Albijew also failed in the other two qualifying tournaments , there will be no Russian wrestlers at the lightweight in London.
