Fərid Mansurov (born May 10, 1982 in Dmanissi , Georgian SSR , Soviet Union ) is an Azerbaijani wrestler . He won the gold medal in the Greco-Roman style up to 66 kg at the 2004 Summer Olympics and was world champion in the same weight class in 2007 and 2009.
Mansurov is 1.71 meters tall and wrestles for the Neftçi Bakı club in his hometown .
career
In 1997 Mansurov became vice world champion of the cadets. At the tournament in Maribor he only lost in the final against Aidyn Sarsekejew from Kazakhstan . In 1999 Mansurov became the 16th world champion of the Cadets after Armen Vardanyan .
In 2001 he became Junior World Champion in Tashkent . In the final he clearly defeated the Russian Valentin Novikov 6-0.
In the following year Mansurov started for the first time at the World Championships for seniors in the weight class up to 66 kg. In the final he was left behind against the Swede Jimmy Samuelsson .
At the European Championships in Belgrade in 2003 , he came in 14th place. At the World Cup in October 2003 Mansurov reached eighth place.
At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens he defeated all of his opponents, including Jimmy Samuelsson again. In the final he won 4: 3 against the European champions from 2003, the Turkish Şeref Eroğlu . In the next year he did not qualify for the international competitions. In 2007 Mansurov started again for Azerbaijan. At the World Championships in Baku, he became world champion for the first time by winning the final over Frenchman Steeve Guénot (3-2). After a disappointing performance at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing , where he only finished 19th, he was able to defend his world title the following year.
