Jimmy Samuelsson (born November 7, 1976 in Norrtälje ) is a Swedish wrestler . In 2002 he became world champion in the Greco-Roman style in lightweight .
Career
Jimmy Samuelsson started wrestling as a teenager in 1983 at the Norrtälje BK sports club . In 1992 he moved to the Sparvaegens BK Stockholm sports club . He concentrated on the Greco-Roman style. After some successes in the junior age in the regional area, he became the first Swedish champion in the senior featherweight division in 1998 and then accepted into the Swedish national wrestling team. From 1999 he was trained there by the former Polish top wrestler Ryszard Świerad . From 2001 to 2009 Jimmy Samuelsson fought for KSV Germania Aalen , 1. Luckenwalder SC and ASV Mainz 1888 in the German Bundesliga. He is a self-employed businessman.
In 1999 he was used by the Swedish Wrestling Federation for the first time at an international championship, the World Championship in Athens . He lost there in featherweight against Shawn Lewis from the United States and against Grigori Komuschenko from Ukraine in each case on points and therefore only finished 38th and last place in this world championship. In 2000 he did not succeed in qualifying for participation in the Olympic Games in Sydney .
In 2001 Jimmy Samuelsson made a big leap forward. He finished first at the European Championships in Istanbul in lightweight 4th Place and just missed a medal. It was the same for him at the World Cup that year in Patras . After four wins he lost there against Filiberto Ascuy Aguilera from Cuba and against Rustam Adschi from Ukraine and ended up on 4th place again.
In 2002 he skipped the European Championship, but was able to convince completely at the German Grand Prix in Dortmund , where he won the lightweight ahead of Juan Luis Maren Delis from Cuba and Seref Eroglu from Turkey . At the 2002 World Cup in Moscow , he achieved the greatest success of his career, because he became the lightweight world champion there with victories over Viktor Kosarjew, Kyrgyzstan , Li Chaojie, China , Juan Luis Maren Delis, Maxim Semenjow , Russia and Fərid Mansurov from Azerbaijan .
He could not confirm this success in the following championships. At the World Championships 2003 in Créteil he won over Nikolai Gergow from Bulgaria and Endrix Arteaga from Venezuela , but then lost after a tough fight against Vaghinak Galstjan from Armenia (3: 4 points) and came in 10th place. At the European Championships in 2004 in Haparanda , he came only one victory over the Israeli Alexei Jouchanow. After defeats against Vitaly Schuk , Ukraine and Eduard Kratz , he had to retire and ended up in 14th place. At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens , Jimmy Samuelsson was once again just about to win a medal. But he lost there in the decisive fights against Fərid Mansurov and Mchitar Manukjan from Kazakhstan and came back to 4th place.
At the 2005 European Championships in Varna , he also achieved another respectable result with a 5th place. At two other world championships and one European championship in 2006 and 2007, he only reached middle places.
