life and work

After the early death of his parents, he grew up with relatives in Westphalia and Lower Saxony. From 1962 to 1968 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kassel with a focus on painting, graphics, philosophy, sociology and politics. During his studies he took part in the public and press relations for documenta III . After completing his studies, he first published mixed media works with films and sound effects, which he financed by working as an art director in Düsseldorf advertising agencies.

In 1970 he founded the gallery mediacontact, press & agency in Düsseldorf's Oststraße and in the same year showed exhibitions by Jochen Gerz , Terry Fox / Joseph Beuys , Klaus Staeck , and in 1971 actions with Vito Acconci , Fox, Peter Hutchinson , Klaus Rinke and William Wegman . The aim of his gallery was to present the social relevance of art information and media research. He also worked on various editions of the literary and art magazine " Ausgabe ", Edition Hundertmark , Cologne.

In 1975 he moved to Berlin, where he devoted himself to outsider art and action, which for him meant leaving the conventional art scene. In Berlin he documented inscriptions on the wall (“No Power for Nobody!”), Others were published in the East Berlin EP Edition Schweinbraden (“33 Statements”).

In 1978 he met Boris Lurie and joined the NO! Art movement around Boris Lurie, Sam Goodman and Stanley Fisher. While in the movement, he began documenting NO! Art activities. In 2001 he reconstructed B. an untitled work by Sam Goodman from 1964 made of plastic and paint, when some artists also included excrement in their work, the Merda d'artista (German artist shit ). From 1978 to 1988 he worked with Boris Lurie on the creation of the first NO! Art anthology and on other publications such as the NO! Art Box, Edition Hundertmark, Cologne.

In 2010 the Neues Museum Weserburg recognized his publishing activities in the early 1970s for the artist series “art information” and “media news”.
