Hans Martin Erhardt

Hans Martin Erhardt (born October 28, 1935 in Emmendingen ; † November 16, 2015 there ) was a German painter and graphic artist .

Life

Hans Martin Erhardt studied 1954–1961 at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe with Professors Wilhelm Schnarrenberger and HAP Grieshaber . He received a scholarship from the German National Academic Foundation early on , which enabled him to study in Paris in 1959. In 1964 he met Samuel Beckett . In 1968 he received a scholarship from the Cité Internationale des Arts Paris .

From 1970 to 1971 Erhardt took on a substitute professorship for the fields of painting and drawing at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart . In 1973 he was awarded the Hans Thoma Prize , the state prize of the state of Baden-Württemberg. From 1980 to 2001 Erhardt was head of the Institute for Fine Arts at the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Karlsruhe . In 2010 the city of Emmendingen awarded him the culture prize.

Hans Martin Erhardt exhibited many times in the Federal Republic of Germany and other countries. He created sets and works for public buildings. Numerous pictures are in the public domain. Hans Martin Erhardt was a member of the Deutscher Künstlerbund , the Künstlerbund Baden-Württemberg and XYLON , the international association of wood cutters. From 2001 to 2015 he lived and worked in Baden and the Languedoc .

Hans Martin Erhardt died on November 16, 2015 at the age of 80 in Emmendingen.

Trivia

Erhardt used to take his students to the desert-like landscape of the Larzac once a year , where their minds were supposed to be freed by the "ascetic" landscape.
